Ohio Boys Tennis Sectional Draw 2019 Median

Five-time defending sectional boys tennis champion West Lafayette received a bye in the tournament this week at Cumberland Courts.

The Red Devils will face the winner of Wednesday's first round matchup between McCutcheon and Lafayette Jeff during Thursday's semifinals.

Harrison will play Central Catholic on Thursday with the championship scheduled for Friday.

Sebastian Lux edged out Gabe Lawson in a third-second tiebreaker, then won the third set at No. 2 singles in Central Catholic's 4-1 win over Carroll. CC's Patrick Gothard and Dylan Riley were straight sets winners in singles play, while Michael Fusiek and Sam Siemers teamed up for a win at No. 2 doubles.

Evan Price double bageled his opponent at No. 1 singles to help Rossville to a 4-1 win over Cass. Reid Douglas and Dirk Shaw teamed up for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles while Jace Jacoby and Grover Said won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Griffin Williams fought off a first-set loss to win at No. 2 singles for the Hornets (8-6).

Boys soccer

The two dominant teams in the area Class 3A boys soccer sectional will square off in the semifinals of next week's tournament Marion. Defending sectional champion McCutcheon faces 2017 state champion Harrison while Lafayette Jeff has the long route in the tournament, facing Kokomo in the opening round. The winner of that match will face Marion or Logansport in the semifinals.

Defending sectional champion West Lafayette hosts the Class 2A sectional and will face Boone Grove in the opening round. Twin Lakes and Benton Central also play in the opening round with those winners facing each other in the semifinal. Rensselaer and Hanover Central play in the other semifinal.

In a rematch of last year's sectional championship, defending champion Faith Christian opens with Delphi in the Class A tournament at Rossville. The host Hornets and Carroll also play in the opening round while North White and Central Catholic, in a rematch of the sectional championship two years ago, play in the semifinal.

► Luke DeLion and Ben von Werder combined on a shutout and had plenty of offensive support in West Lafayette's 8-0 win over Crawfordsville. Carson Cooke scored three goals and Miguel van der Mensbrugghe scored twice. Austin Pacheco assisted on three goals and Andrew Downey provided two helpers.

Joaquin Gallo scored three goals and Blake Ortner added two in Central Catholic's 6-2 win over Benton Central.

Rico Mandolini and Logan Pinkerton each scored off Tanner Dreher assists in the second half of Covington's 2-1 comeback win over North Putnam.

Girls soccer

Defending sectional champion and Class 3A host Harrison drew Kokomo in the first match of next week's tournament. Logansport and McCutcheon also play in the opening round. The winner of the Logansport/McCutcheon match will advance to the championship, while Lafayette Jeff awaits the Harrison/Kokomo winner.

At Hanover Central, West Lafayette opens with the tournament hosts in the Class 2A sectional. Lowell and Kankakee Valley play in the opening round, while Twin Lakes faces Benton Central in the semifinals.

After reaching the Class A final four last year, Central Catholic will play Rossville in the opening round of the sectional tournament at Western Boone. Faith Christian and the host Stars also play in the opening round,  while North White will play CC or Rossville in the semifinals.

Caroline Lutz provided three goals and three assists in Central Catholic's 9-0 win over Benton Central. Karsyn Cherry also had a hat trick and Lizzie McLaughlin scored her first two goals of the season.

► Two assists from Sidney Campbell set up North Montgomery for a 3-2 win over Faith Christian. Nina Gable, Teegan Bacon and Lydia Dugard all scored for the Chargers.

► Rensselaer snapped a three-match losing streak behind hat tricks from Abby Lucas and Ariel Manns in a 7-1 win over Morgan Township.

Volleyball

Jozee Evans pounded nine kills, including the 1,000th of her career, in Central Catholic's 25-13, 25-10, 25-13 sweep over North Montgomery. Lilly Powers added a double-double with 11 aces and 19 assists and Kaycie Hicks led CC's defense with 10 digs.

Tori Woods recorded a double-double with 17 kills and 12 digs in West Lafayette's 25-19, 25-15, 25-20 sweep of Frontier. Rachel Williams added eight kills and five aces.

Alexis Nelson had 23 kills in Southmont's 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 sweep over South Vermillion.

Jordyn Gasser's 13 kills lifted Delphi to a 25-22, 25-8, 25-10 sweep over Taylor. Reagan Gleason added six aces and Lillie Smith had 19 digs for the Oracles.

Lizzie Glassburn served seven aces to go with 14 assists and Leah Schriner had nine kills in South Newton's 25-14, 25-4 win over Iroquois West (Ill.).

► Five aces and 11 digs from Emily Phelps helped North White to a 25-14, 27-25, 25-14 sweep over Rensselaer. Lynzi Heimlich added 19 kills and 13 assists, while Kinsey Westerhouse pounded nine kills.
